President Policy Research Institute of Market Economy (PRIME) Dr. Manzoor Ahmad has been inducted as a Member of the Trade Policy Advisory Committee (TPAC).
The Trade Policy Committee is deputed to formulate and implement the Strategic Trade Policy Framework 2018-23.
In order to give deeper consideration to the trade policy proposals received from various stakeholders, the Ministry of Commerce has set up a high level Trade Policy Advisory Committee (TPAC). It consists of an equal number of experts from the government and the private sector. Amongst the later are the President of the Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr Manzoor Ahmad, ex-Ambassador to the WTO and current President of Policy Research Institute of Market Economy (PRIME), Mr Umer Saeed of Services Industry and Mr Gohar Ejaz of Ejaz Spinning Mills.
The Committee will meet every quarterly to identify relevant policy issues that should be addressed through public private dialogues and those that need further examination through research studies or technical assistance. The Committee will also have a major role in reviewing the implementation of the Strategic Trade Policy Framework 2018-2023 and recommend measures, which are required to address any impediments. The Committee will also focus on identification of key markets and products for reviving exports.
It may be recalled that the previous two Strategic Policy Framework announced in 2012 and 2015 did not have any overall monitoring mechanism. This was considered as one of the reasons for their failure to achieve their objectives.
