Dr. Vaqar Ahmed

Dr. Vaqar Ahmed is Joint Executive Director, Sustainable Development Policy Institute. He is a former civil servant and has served as an Advisor to UNDP. He has also undertaken assignments with Asian Development Bank, World Bank Group, and Ministries of Finance, Planning and Commerce in Pakistan. His main areas of research include progressive fiscal policies, regional value chains, and SME-focused tax and trade reforms. He is a visiting faculty at University of Le Havre in France, National University of Ireland, IMT Institute of Advanced Studies in Italy, Quaid-i-Azam University in Pakistan.  He is the author of ‘Pakistan’s Agenda for Economic Reforms’ published by the Oxford University Press and was awarded the prestigious French Republic Young Leaders Fellowship, and International Monetary Fund’s Civil Society Fellowship.

Dr. Ahmed serves as a Board Member of Fauji Foundation Welfare Advisory Board, Creative Cities Advisory Board of British Council UK, and Member Steering Committee of Southern Voice Think Tanks Network. He is also the honorary research fellow at Partnership for Economic Policy, University of Laval in Canada. On the request of Government of Punjab, Pakistan, he serves as Member of Technical Committee to guide Punjab Spatial Development Strategy.
